Sedation Dentistry

At Barry Bartusiak, DMD we offer our Washington, PA patients several options for sedation dentistry to alleviate their fears and anxiety.

Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a mild sedative that can be delivered through a nose hood throughout your procedure. It relieves anxiety, reduces pain and evokes a sense of well being. There are few side effects and nitrous oxide has been safely used for many years in dentistry.

Oral Concious Sedation is oral medication that is given prior to the treatment that induces a moderate state of sedation. Oral sedatives commonly used include Valium, Halcion, Ativan and Versed. Oral sedatives do not cause sleep but will usually dull the senses. Many patients who use this method of sedation do not remember the procedure.

IV Sedation is administered through an IV into the bloodstream. It offers immediate effects and patients often report feeling like they slept through the entire procedure.
